Dojo News
Events
Continued discussion of different events that could be held throughout the year to build Dojo spirit that would include family and friends of students. A whitewater rafting trip was discussed and a mention of a softball game came up. Let myself or Co-Captain Dianne know of any additional ideas you may be entertaining.
Dojo Calendar
Development of a dojo calendar for the 2011 calendar year was discussed. A couple of different ideas on how to accomplish this came up such as using Shutterfly (an internet base personal publishing service) and going through Apple. Other options will be looked into.
Dojo Website
The photo section of the dojo website is under construction. Send Matt or myself any photos that you would like considered for posting on the website.
Kata DVD
The topic of a kata DVD that had previously fell through the cracks re-emerged. It is thought that a DVD containing various katas would be a good aid to be used internally to brush-up on katas that students have not done for a while. Volunteers are being asked to come forward to participate in the filming. Prior to filming there will be a number of practice sessions most likely held on Sunday mornings. A list will be made available very soon to indicate your interest and the kata that you would like to perform (no weapons). Practice sessions will begin in mid or late March.
Takahashi Karate Dojo on Facebook
It was suggested that as a way to further promote our dojo, we created a “Page” or “Group” on the social networking site Facebook. There, info on the dojo may be posted, discussions may be had and through word of mouth interest will develop.
Superbowl Pool
The Superbowl 50/50 Football Pool board is mounted at the dojo. The box numbers will be chosen at random on Fri 2/5/10 at 7:15pm and the results will be known Sun. 2/7/10 after the game; prize payouts will be adjusted based on the total number of boxes sold.
Protective Guards
Sparring gear should not be left on the dojo training floor. One reason is that it is not aesthetically pleasing and secondly, it poses a tripping hazard if the pads venture too far away from the wall. It is suggested that protective guards be kept in your gym bag until needed and then returned to your bag after use.
