Dojo News
Dojo T-Shirts
Many students signed up to purchase one or multiple dojo t-shirts. The order form will remain on Sensei’s desk until Friday May 14th for those few who would still like to place an order. The cost will be $21/t-shirt which includes the cost per unit, tax and a modest mark-up that will be placed in the dojo fund. Collection from those who ordered t-shirts will begin the following Wednesday May 19th.
Karate Demonstration
A brief meeting was scheduled for Saturday May 8th for the participants in the karate demonstration that is to be held at the Amityville Heritage Fair. There we will discuss time of arrival, each participant’s role and what activities will be conducted. It was discussed that the Saturday’s children’s class for that day be held at the Fair and that written directions and a map be created to be made available for parents to bring their child to the venue. Additional children are needed for the demonstration.
Kata DVD
The last practice session prior to filming the kata DVD was held this past Sunday May 2nd. The set-up for the two cameras being used had been worked out and test filming had been conducted. During the test filming, it had been discovered that the camera facing the front of the dojo produced a blue background on the recorded image due to the amount of sunlight coming through the glass storefront. Therefore, it was decided to screen the storefront as a remedy. Final filming will begin on Sunday May 16th and film editing will immediately follow. Many of the beginner to intermediate katas, such as the heians & tekkis, have not been represented, therefore we are asking for additional volunteers to come forward. The sign-up sheet remains on Sensei’s desk.
June 6th Beach Training Un-cancelled
The previously scheduled June beach training had been cancelled due to the close proximity of the outdoor Special Training session upstate. Some students had expressed interest in still holding the June beach training and since the outdoor Special Training had a change of venue to indoors due to inclement weather, we took a vote and enough students were interested to put the June beach training back on the calendar. A sign-up sheet will be available on Sensei’s desk by Monday May 10th for those interested in participating in the June beach training.
New Students Needed
Sensei mentioned that at the Mt. Kisco school, a lot of old students are returning. We still need to attract new students to the dojo. Friends of current students trying out a class had previously been suggested and is working out but Sensei would also like others and multiple beginners to join. Having many beginners in a class would put those new students at ease since they could better gauge their progress based on one of their peers instead of the many advanced students that we currently have. Sensei would like to have potential new students participate in Saturday classes as well. Sensei suggested that a flyer be made to announce a summer special promoting (1) free class.
