In Karate the most challenging opponent is you. To improve you must constantly strive within yourself and never give less than everything you have.

The whole essence of karate is looking within yourself and pushing to be the best you can be—learning your own limitations and pushing to the fullest extent. That whole philosophy is not just for the Dojo; it can be used at home, in business, in life.

Always get back to "The Way"
Read all you can about the Martial Arts, all disciplines. Visiting Sensei Okano provided a deeper understanding of the roots of Kenkojuku. It was an honor to visit and train where my Sensei began his path. Help your kohai!

Would you be able to practice Karate-do, if you had no arms or legs?
The person who does not know, yet seeks to know, discovers that by seeking & searching for what they wanted to understand, has learned more than what they intended to.

Karate allows me to maintain my perspective and focus. You get out
of life what you put into it. Hard, steady work has many rewards. In the
beginning of your training it all seems so awkward. Slowly and steadily it
feels natural; like you were meant to move that way. It begins to feel
graceful and you begin to walk taller; more self assured. It then begins to
positively affect how you interact in your daily life outside of the dojo.
It becomes part of your life.
I believe that I've always wanted to learn karate. Like many young
men I think that the Saturday afternoon karate movies fascinated me. Who
wouldn't want to fly through the air kicking and punching and taking out
twenty bad guys at a time. It was like being a super hero, but in a sense
attainable. If you studied it and worked hard; why not. Well I've been
studying and working hard for a while now. I can't fly yet. Maybe it takes a
few more years.

Unity of body, mind, and spirit portrays Karate's essence.
The benefits of karate training and teaching are vast. Both training and teaching
have helped me to overcome fears and become a more confident person. It has also
helped me to change careers and become an English teacher after 22 years in the computer field.
Thank you Sensei Takahashi. Oss!

Training in Karate is a great way to develop ones discipline, self-confidence, self-control, self-awareness, strength, endurance and a means to defend yourself (or others) should the need ever arise. What you get out of your training is what you put into your training. If you choose to do the very least, you will get a certain result. Should you choose to give it your very best each and every time, aiming to do just a little better than you did the time before, you will then get a greater and more rewarding outcome which will carry over in all aspects of your life whether it be consciously or sub-consciously.

Studying Karate is truly a way of life. It is both an enlightening and humbling experience. It helps us reach into our inner depths and identify with our inner self our true essence. This understanding can then be applied to all aspects of our lives… if we so desire.
